1.0 Research Artifacts

I was so frustrated by having to wait for washing machines, but how about the others?

1. Discovery

Field Visits

I visited the laundry room in my own dormitory and observed that students struggle to share use of machines using sign up sheets.

Field Visit

2. Secondary Research

Competitive Analysis

I conducted desktop research to validate the problem and conducted a competitive analysis to review the existing solutions in the market.

3. User Research

Survey Questionnaire

I designed and conducted a survey with 100 college students from the United States. I received feedback from 75 .

2.0 Conception Artifacts

I was so frustrated by having to wait for washing machines, but how about the others?

1. Define

Define MVP

Focus on solving problems for "late pickers".

2. Envision

Design Customer Journey

I described users' goal, emotion change, thoughts and feelings throughout an interaction with the app with a user journey map.

3. SYSTEMIZE

Task Flow

I describe the use flow of the product with the four core features included in MVP.

4. Explore

8 ideas in 5 minutes

I explored based on the priority of the feature, the urgency of user’s action, and the frequency of use.

Exploration Sketching

5. Refine

1 major idea in 5 minutes

I evaluated my design against my design principles and made sure the flow was intuitive and encompassing all features promised.

6. Build

System Flow

I designed a low-fi screen flow to translate user scenario into system language.

3.0 Design Artifacts

It takes steps of testing to get from sketching to design.

1. Prototype

Low-fi wireframe

I made a low-fi prototype in POP to communicate my idea.

2. Testing

Usability test

I tested the low-fi wireframe with potential users using unmoderated usability test.
I discovered the need to educate users from other countries to use Q code.

3. Visualize

High-fi wireframe

Considering users' characteristics, I used a modern, flat, and clean design to give a bright, and refreshing experience. The hi-fi prototype was made in inVision.

4.0 Final Mobile App SCREEN SHOWCASE

After two iterations, I came up with the following UI style.

TL;DR:

My exploration did not end there. I did more research and discovered the need for an apple watch app.

WATCH APP FLOW

I went through the same journey as designing the mobile app and conclude with this task flow
